Exodus 30
1¶ In the same manner thou shalt make an altar to burn incense upon; of cedar wood shalt thou make it.
2Its length shall be a cubit and its width a cubit; it shall be square and its height two cubits; its horns shall be of the same.
3And thou shalt cover it with pure gold, its top and its sides round about, and its horns; and thou shalt make unto it a moulding of gold round about.
4And two golden rings shalt thou make to it under its moulding by its two corners on both sides for places for the staves to bear it with.
5And thou shalt make the staves of cedar wood and cover them with gold.
6And thou shalt put it before the veil that is by the ark of the testimony, before the seat of reconciliation that is over the testimony, where I will testify unto thee of myself.
7And Aaron shall burn sweet incense thereon every morning; when he dresses the lamps, he shall burn it.
8And when Aaron lights the lamps at evening, he shall burn incense upon it continually before the Lord throughout your ages.
9Ye shall offer no strange incense thereon nor burnt sacrifice nor present; neither shall ye pour drink offering thereon.
10And Aaron shall make reconciliation upon the horns of it once a year with the blood of the reconciliation for sin; once a year shall he make reconciliation upon it throughout your ages; it shall be most holy unto the Lord.
11¶ And the Lord spoke unto Moses, saying,
12When thou takest the number of the sons of Israel after the sum of them, each one shall give a ransom for his soul unto the Lord, when thou dost number them, that there be no mortality in them because of numbering them.
13This shall be given by every one that passes among those that are numbered: half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary (a shekel is twenty gerahs); a half shekel shall be the offering to the Lord.
14Anyone that passes among those that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give the offering unto the Lord.
15The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give the offering unto the Lord to make reconciliation for your souls.
16And thou shalt take the reconciliation money of the sons of Israel and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the testimony, and it shall be a memorial unto the sons of Israel before the Lord to reconcile your souls.
17¶ And the Lord spoke further unto Moses, saying,
18Thou shalt also make a laver of brass, and its base also of brass, to wash with; and thou shalt place it between the tabernacle of the testimony and the altar, and thou shalt put water in it.
19And from it Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet.
20When they go into the tabernacle of the testimony, they shall wash with water that they not die, or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn the offering unto the Lord that must be consumed by fire,
21they shall wash their hands and their feet, that they not die. And he and his seed shall have it as a perpetual statute throughout their generations.
22¶ The Lord spoke further unto Moses, saying,
23Thou must take unto thee of the principal spices: of excellent myrrh five hundred shekels and of aromatic cinnamon half so much, even two hundred and fifty shekels, and of aromatic calamus two hundred and fifty shekels,
24and of cassia five hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, and of oil olive one hin;
25and thou shalt make of it the oil of the holy anointing, a superior ointment, after the art of the apothecary, which shall be the oil of the holy anointing.
26And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the testimony with it and the ark of the testimony
27and the table and all its vessels and the lampstand and its vessels and the altar of incense
28and the altar of burnt offering with all its vessels and the laver and its base.
29Thus thou shalt consecrate them, and they shall be most holy; whatever touches them shall be sanctified.
30And thou shalt also anoint Aaron and his sons and sanctify them that they may be my priests.
31And thou shalt speak unto the sons of Israel, saying, This shall be my oil of the holy anointing throughout your ages.
32It shall not be poured upon man’s flesh; neither shall ye make any other like it, after the composition of it; it is holy, and it shall be holy unto you.
33Whoever compounds any like it and puts any of it upon a stranger shall be cut off from his people.
34And the Lord said unto Moses, Take unto thee aromas, stacte and onycha and aromatic galbanum and pure frankincense, of each in equal weight.
35And thou shalt make it a perfume, a confection after the art of the apothecary, tempered together, pure and holy;
36and thou shalt beat some of it very small and put of it before the testimony in the tabernacle of the testimony, where I will testify unto thee of myself. It shall be most holy unto you.
37And as for the perfume which thou shalt make, ye shall not make to yourselves another according to the composition thereof: it shall be holiness unto thee for the Lord.
38Whoever shall make another like unto that to smell it shall be cut off from his people.

The altar for burning incense
(Exodus 37.25-28)
The LORD said to Moses:
1Build an altar of acacia wood where you can burn incense. 2Make it forty-five centimetres square and ninety centimetres high, and make each of its four corners stick up like the horn of a bull. 3Cover it with pure gold and put a gold edging around it. 4Then below the edging on opposite sides attach two gold rings through which you can put the poles for carrying the altar. 5These poles are also to be made of acacia wood covered with gold.
6Put the altar in front of the inside curtain of the sacred tent. The chest with the place of mercy#30.6 place of mercy: See the note at 26.34. is kept behind that curtain, and I will talk with you there. 7-8From now on, when Aaron tends the lamp each morning and evening, he must burn sweet-smelling incense to me on the altar. 9Burn only the proper incense on the altar and never use it for grain sacrifices or animal sacrifices or drink offerings. 10Once a year Aaron must purify the altar by smearing on its four corners#30.10 four corners: See 27.2; 30.2. the blood of an animal sacrificed for sin, and this practice must always be followed. The altar is sacred because it is dedicated to me.
The money for the sacred tent
11The LORD said to Moses:
12Find out how many grown men there are in Israel and require each of them to pay me to keep him safe from danger while you are counting them. 13-15Each man over nineteen, whether rich or poor, must pay me the same amount of money, weighed according to the official standards.#Ex 38.25,26; Mt 17.24. 16This money is to be used for the upkeep of the sacred tent, and because of it, I will never forget my people.
The large bronze bowl
(Exodus 38.8)
17The LORD said to Moses:
18-21Make a large bronze bowl and a bronze stand for it. Then put them between the altar for sacrifice and the sacred tent, so the priests can wash their hands and feet before entering the tent or offering a sacrifice on the altar. Each priest in every generation must wash himself in this way, or else he will die there.#Ex 38.8.
The oil for dedication and ordination
(Exodus 37.29)
22The LORD said to Moses:#Ex 37.29.
23-25Mix four litres of olive oil with the following costly spices: six kilogrammes of myrrh, three kilogrammes of cinnamon, three kilogrammes of cane, and six kilogrammes of cassia. Measure these according to the official standards. Then use this sacred mixture 26for dedicating the tent and chest, 27the table with its equipment, the lampstand with its equipment, the incense altar with all its utensils, 28the altar for sacrifices, and the large bowl with its stand. 29By dedicating them in this way, you will make them so holy that anyone who even touches them will become holy.
30When you ordain Aaron and his sons as my priests, sprinkle them with some of this oil, 31and say to the people of Israel: “This oil must always be used in the ordination service of a priest. It is holy because it is dedicated to the LORD. 32So treat it as holy! Don't ever use it for everyday purposes or mix any for yourselves. 33If you do, you will no longer belong to the LORD's people.”
The sweet-smelling incense
34-35Mix equal amounts of the costly spices stacte, onycha, galbanum, and pure frankincense, then add salt to make the mixture pure and holy. 36Pound some of it into powder and sprinkle it in front of the sacred chest, where I meet with you. Be sure to treat this incense as something very holy. 37It is truly holy because it is dedicated to me, so don't ever make any for yourselves. 38If you ever make any of it to use as perfume, you will no longer belong to my people.
