Isaiah 25
25
A Song of Praise to God
1Lord, you are my God.
I honor you and praise you,
because you have done amazing things.
You have always done what you said you would do;
you have done what you planned long ago.
2You have made the city a pile of rocks
and have destroyed her walls.
The city our enemies built with strong walls is gone;
it will never be built again.
3People from powerful nations will honor you;
cruel people from strong cities will fear you.
4You protect the poor;
you protect the helpless when they are in danger.
You are like a shelter from storms,
like shade that protects them from the heat.
The cruel people attack
like a rainstorm beating against the wall,
5like the heat in the desert.
But you, God, stop their violent attack.
As a cloud cools a hot day,
you silence the songs of those who have no mercy.
God’s Banquet for His Servants
6The Lord All-Powerful will prepare a feast
on this mountain for all people.
It will be a feast with all the best food and wine,
the finest meat and wine.
7On this mountain God will destroy
the veil that covers all nations,
the veil that stretches over all peoples;
8he will destroy death forever.
The Lord God will wipe away every tear from every face.
He will take away the shame of his people from the earth.
The Lord has spoken.
9At that time people will say,
“Our God is doing this!
We have waited for him, and he has come to save us.
This is the Lord. We waited for him,
so we will rejoice and be happy when he saves us.”
10The Lord will protect Jerusalem,
but he will crush our enemy Moab
like straw that is trampled down in the manure.
11They will spread their arms in it
like a person who is swimming.
But God will bring down their pride,
and all the clever things they have made will mean nothing.
12Moab’s high walls protect them,
but God will destroy these walls.
He will throw them down to the ground,
even to the dust.

Isaiah 25
25
1O Lord, thou art my God;
I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name;
for thou hast done wonderful things,
plans formed of old, faithful and sure.
2For thou hast made the city a heap,
the fortified city a ruin;
the palace of aliens is a city no more,
it will never be rebuilt.
3Therefore strong peoples will glorify thee;
cities of ruthless nations will fear thee.
4For thou hast been a stronghold to the poor,
a stronghold to the needy in his distress,
a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat;
for the blast of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall,
5like heat in a dry place.
Thou dost subdue the noise of the aliens;
as heat by the shade of a cloud,
so the song of the ruthless is stilled.
6On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of fat things, a feast of wine on the lees, of fat things full of marrow, of wine on the lees well refined. 7And he will destroy on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples, the veil that is spread over all nations. 8#1 Cor 15.54; Rev 7.17; 21.4. He will swallow up death for ever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces, and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth; for the Lord has spoken.
9It will be said on that day, “Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, that he might save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for him; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.”
10 #
Is 15—16; Jer 48; Ezek 25.8-11; Amos 2.1-3; Zeph 2.8-11. For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain, and Moab shall be trodden down in his place, as straw is trodden down in a dung-pit. 11And he will spread out his hands in the midst of it as a swimmer spreads his hands out to swim; but the Lord will lay low his pride together with the skill#25.11 The meaning of the Hebrew word is uncertain of his hands. 12And the high fortifications of his walls he will bring down, lay low, and cast to the ground, even to the dust.
