Isaiah 52
52
Cheer for Prostrate Zion
1Awake, awake,
Clothe yourself in your strength, O Zion;
Clothe yourself in your beautiful garments,
O Jerusalem, the holy city;
For the uncircumcised and the unclean
Will no longer come into you.
2Shake yourself from the dust, rise up,
O captive Jerusalem;
Loose yourself from the chains around your neck,
O captive daughter of Zion.
3For thus says the Lord, “You were sold for nothing and you will be redeemed without money.” 4For thus says the Lord God, “My people went down at the first into Egypt to reside there; then the Assyrian oppressed them without cause. 5Now therefore, what do I have here,” declares the Lord, “seeing that My people have been taken away without cause?” Again the Lord declares, “Those who rule over them howl, and My name is continually blasphemed all day long. 6Therefore My people shall know My name; therefore in that day I am the one who is speaking, ‘Here I am.’ ”
7How lovely on the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who announces peace
And brings good news of happiness,
Who announces salvation,
And says to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
8Listen! Your watchmen lift up their voices,
They shout joyfully together;
For they will see with their own eyes
When the Lord restores Zion.
9Break forth, shout joyfully together,
You waste places of Jerusalem;
For the Lord has comforted His people,
He has redeemed Jerusalem.
10The Lord has bared His holy arm
In the sight of all the nations,
That all the ends of the earth may see
The salvation of our God.
11Depart, depart, go out from there,
Touch nothing unclean;
Go out of the midst of her, purify yourselves,
You who carry the vessels of the Lord.
12But you will not go out in haste,
Nor will you go as fugitives;
For the Lord will go before you,
And the God of Israel will be your rear guard.
The Exalted Servant
13Behold, My servant will prosper,
He will be high and lifted up and greatly exalted.
14Just as many were astonished at you, My people,
So His appearance was marred more than any man
And His form more than the sons of men.
15Thus He will sprinkle many nations,
Kings will shut their mouths on account of Him;
For what had not been told them they will see,
And what they had not heard they will understand.

Yahweh Redeems Zion
1Awake! Awake; put on your strength, Zion!

For the uncircumcised and the unclean shall not continue to#Literally “do again he shall” enter you any longer.
2Shake yourself free from the dust! Rise up; sit, Jerusalem!
Free yourselves from the bonds of your neck, captive daughter of Zion!
3For thus says Yahweh:
“You were sold for nothing,
and you shall be redeemed without money.”
4For thus says the Lord Yahweh:
“My people went down to Egypt in the beginning, to dwell as aliens there, and Assyria oppressed him without cause.#Literally “in nothing” 5And now what do I have here?”declares#Literally “declaration of” Yahweh, “for my people is taken without cause. Here am I.”#Literally “Look at me”
7How delightful on the mountains are the feet of him who brings good news,
who announces peace, who brings good news, who announces salvation,
who says to Zion, “Your God reigns as a king.”
8The voices#Hebrew “voice” of your watchmen! They lift up their voices;#Hebrew “voice”
together they sing for joy;
for they clearly#Literally “eye in eye “ see Yahweh’s return to Zion.
9Break forth,
sing for joy together, ruins of Jerusalem,
for Yahweh has comforted his people;
he has redeemed Jerusalem.
10Yahweh has bared his holy arm#Literally “the arm of his holiness” to the eyes of all the nations,
and all the ends#Hebrew “end” of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
11Depart, depart, go out from there! You must not touch any unclean thing.
Go out from the midst of it, keep clean, you who carry the vessels of Yahweh.
12For you shall not go out in haste,
and you shall not go in flight,
for Yahweh is going before you,
and your rear guard is the God of Israel.
The Servant’s Suffering and Exaltation
13Look, my servant shall achieve success;
he shall be exalted,
and he shall be lifted up,
and he shall be very high.
14Just as many were appalled at you—
such was his appearance beyond human disfigurement,
and his form beyond the sons of mankind—
15so he shall sprinkle many nations;
because of him, kings shall shut their mouths.#Hebrew “mouth”
For they shall see what has not been told them,
and they shall consider with full attention what they have not heard.
